An indian wedding is one of the most lavish occassions one can attend. The wedding celebration of Nandini and Akash was spread over 3 days which is very normal in India.  Both Nandini and Akash are from Mumbai, known to many as Bombay.

Hindu marriages are performed by priests who chant Sanskrit hymns and mantras in front of the sacred fire, while special wedding music plays in the background.

A typical Hindu marriage begins with the selection of an auspicious day, and time to perform the wedding.  Nandini and Akash's marriage ceremony took place at 3:00 am!

The wedding ceremony is conducted in a mandap, a special dias decorated with flowers for the occasion. The Indian wedding procession of the groom, the Baraat, is a main event on the groom's side. The baraat headed by a display of fireworks, accompanied by the rhythm of the dholak or melam, reaches the meeting point, where the elders of both the families meet and welcome the groom with garlands and aarati.

The wedding party is also very lavish with lots of food and drink available all night, the only difference being the drinks are non-alcoholic since it is a religiuos celebration.

Day 2: Mehndi Night

This is where the bride and groom hold separate parties for their respective guests. The women attending this party are treated to Mehndi which consists of henna tatooing the hands. Once again lots of food, drink and traditional dancing take place

Day 3: Wedding Day

Another big party is held, however being a religious celebration no alcoholic drinks are served.  Still, there was all the food and non-alcoholic drinks one can imagine. The actual wedding ritual was held at about 3 am which is the time chosen by matching the bride and groom's horoscopes.
