Honeymoon period:

28th October - 20th November 2003

Countries visited:

Thailand

Any inoculations required?

Yes, inoculation is required.  This can be done at the Floriana polyclinic where further information on what needs to be done can be obtained.

Trip details:

We spent a night in Bangkok, flew to Chiang Mai which is the northern part of the island and spend 5 days.  We spent the rest of our honeymoon in the Southern part of the island which has various beaches. The last few days were made of shopping sprees in Bangkok.

Reason for choosing this destination:

Seen pictures of friends who were there and I was amazed by the beautiful places.

How was the weather?

October / November is not a high season. Weather was fine.  Monsoon was over and it was not too crowded nor too hot.

Where have you stayed?

We visited 5 different places during our visit and we always stayed in hotels except when we went to Kho Phangan which is a small island in the South East of Thailand and we stayed in huts which were situated on the beach.

What did you do?

We went on elephant rides, canoeing, days on the beach, boat trips, monkey shows, crocodiles, partying and shopping. Floating Markets and massages on the beach.

The best parts?

Everywhere was just great.

The biggest regrets?

That we did not stay for another week because we would have done some tracking.

Any suggestions/warnings you would like to pass on to couples visiting the same destination?

We would like to suggest not to do any bookings beforehand except for booking one night in Bangkok.  There are various agents around the place where you can book your next destination.  Lonely Planet was definitely a good guide.

What's the suggested budget for a similar trip?

Depends, such holiday may total up to Lm 2,000 per couple on a budget but you can spend much more.

Any other comments?

Thailand is  a beautiful country full of culture and places to see.  It is definitely worth visiting. Our honeymoon will not be our first and last visit to Thailand for sure!
