Catherine
Bonnici and Alexander Demanuele
Wedding
Date: 5th May 2007
Well,
my story is a very unique and unusual one, but I know
who visits this site will just fall in love with my
story, or as I should say OUR STORY.
Well,
it all began in 2001 April 29, I was on Maltachat chatting
with maltese people as I live abroad in Canada, but
both my parents are Maltese. Anyways, that's where Alexander
and I met, on the chatline. I know very unusual!!
We talked for about 2-3 months and then my father
and I planned a trip to Malta in July 2001 for seven weeks.
Alexander
was thrilled that I was coming for holidays, and well
as for me, I had never been to Malta before, but it
was definitely going to be an experience that I would
truly never forget. Two days after I arrived in
Malta Alexander and I met infront of the church of St.
Peter's in Birzebuggia, as that's where I was staying
for those seven weeks.
It
was 8:52pm Wednesday July 11, 2001, a day I will truly
never forget, the day my whole life would change. I
met the love of my life ALEXANDER. I was not even nervous
to meet him, I felt that I knew him for years as we
connected at first sight. We talked about many different
things and fell in love, then that same night we kissed,
it was so romantic and I felt a different feeling
that I never felt before. I guess it was love
moving into my life.
Throughout
those seven weeks I was in Malta, Alexander took
me to many places and feasts. It was all very
different and interesting for me. I met with his
family and he met my father and some family I have in
Malta. After my holiday was over it was time
for me to leave to come back to Canada to finish my
last year of High School. It was hard for me to
leave Alex, but I had no choice. I cried for at
least a week. I couldn't get used to the
fact that we were not able to hold each other, kiss
each other and be with each other, but eventually school
started and I got used to it. Throughout this
time, we kept in touch with letters, telephone
calls, chatting, e-mails and everything that could make
us feel close to each other.
Then
one day in October I was thrilled, I wanted to go back
to Malta for Christmas, see a
different
country during that special time of year. Alexander
was thrilled when he found out that I was going to be
in Malta for three weeks.
I
thought December would never arrive, but it did as the
world is always moving. I arrived December 14, 2001.
I was so happy to see Alexander awaiting me at
the airport, when I saw him I ran to him and gave him
the biggest hug and kiss that I could ever imagine,
and well you could all guess what his response was,
LOL!!
He
kissed me back of course!!!
I
spent the best three weeks of my life, I learned
how the Maltese do many different traditions for
Christmas, and it was weird for me not to see snow on
the ground for a change, but Alexander was more important
than snow, he became my life.
But
then again, three weeks went by and I had to leave
again cause I had another six months of school
left.
When
I came back this time to Canada, I was lonely, I felt
like I lost a part of me. I wanted Alexander to be with
me, we wanted to be with each other so badly, but we
had to make it work with letters, emails, phonecalls
etc... But it worked.
During
those six months I spent a lot of time thinking
and I decided that I wanted to move to Malta, I
couldn't live without Alexander so I left my mother
and father and friends, basically my life for him and
I moved to Malta in June 2002.
I
lived with Alexander and his family, they approved of
it as they knew what type of person I was, they got
to know me a lot during Christmas. It was definitely
an experience of a lifetime. I went to school
and took a couple of courses.
Then
in December of 2002 Alexander and I came to Canada to
spend Christmas with my parents. It was very nice
for Alexander as it was his first time visiting Canada
and where I live and my family, but I made him feel
at home like what he did when I was in Malta.
Then
once again, we had to leave, it was hard and both my
parents had felt it deeply to see us go away once again,
and I couldn't bare the pain in their eyes, but we had
to leave. We spent another year in Malta and then the
whole story changed.
I
finished school and some courses, and Alexander was
getting fed up of work, and I was getting fed up of
not finding work, it was very difficult for me, I know
how to read and write and speak in Maltese and English,
but it was difficult, we both wanted to go somewhere,
where we could have a better future.
So
we left Malta in January of 2004. It was very hard leaving
his family, we both felt a lot, but Alexander has an
understanding family, thank God. We spent six months
here in Canada, Alexander liked it and then we went
back to Malta for four months and we got married
by Law on September 11, 2004.
In
November we came back to Canada and I applied with Immigration
for Alexander to live here and it worked, now he is
a landed immigrant both a Canadian and Maltese, like
me, lol!! We are both extremely happy. We recently
moved into an apartment in Mississauga, Ontario and
are planning our life together.
It's
very unusual for couples to live with each other before
marriage, but in my case, it's our only choice, but
we are both happy and that's what counts. At the same
time we are being independent and trustworthy of each
other, and it gives us an advantage to see the person
who we are going to be marrying in the future. I have
nothing to complain about him, he is the best person
in the whole wide world, we understand each other and
love each other unconditionally.
Anyways,
our wedding is going to be in 2007 May 5 in Malta, we
decided to have it there because Alexander's family
is quite large, as for mine as well, but not as much
as his, plus we both wanted to make his parents happy
to get married in Malta. They gave us the blessing of
letting Alexander come and live in Canada, the least
we could do for them is have our wedding in Malta.
My
parents will be coming down for our wedding. My maid
of honour Christine will be coming for our wedding too,
so I'm just hoping for the best to come until our wedding
day.
Well,
I think my story is long enough on my end, it's a very
unusual one and that's why it's unusually long as well,
but I know who reads it will definitely fall in love
with our story.
Thank
you for taking the time in reading my story and I can't
wait until May 5, 2007.
