Elaine
Fenech and Simon Shead
Wedding
Date: 7th September 2006
Shortly
after Christmas my whole family from my mother's side
meet at my Grandma's house for drinks, it is usually
a very happy affair however it had only been 3 months
after my return to Malta as I had been living abroad
and I was still adjusting to moving back in with my
parents and to the lifestyle here, amongst others, so
for some reason I could not wait to leave.
My
cousin Diane sensed my irritation and suggested we go
for a coffee somewhere and talk. We opted for
one of the cafeteria's at the airport (MIA) cause it
is close to where my grandma lives, and that is were
I saw Simon for the first time. He worked there
as a part time bartender, and he knew Diane, she was
sort of dating his friend.
I
fancied Simon straight away but when he came over to
our table for a quick chat with Diane and I smiled at
him he completely ignored me. I was so offended,
little did I know he had been secretly checking me out,
and was sending text messages to the guy Diane was dating,
wanting to know more about me.
A
couple of days later Diane called asking me to go to
an MIA staff party with her. She was going with
Simon's friend and Simon had requested that I'd go as
his date, but I refused, exams were just round the corner
so I had to study and besides I was still upset about
him not returning my smile!
Anyway
after further pestering from my cousin I accepted though
I warned her that she was in debt with me and that it
wouldn’t be a real date between Simon and I, of course
my cousin never told Simon that!
The
day came. I was very nervous but relaxed as soon
as I realised that Simon was even more nervous than
I was plus I'd taken a few shots of gin & tonic
to calm me down, the few shots turned into quite a lot
of shots, and I ended up dropping vodka on Diane's new
cream trousers
(Diane
if you read this I truly am very sorry.
We
had a great night out but like everything else it came
to an end but before we said our goodbyes Simon kissed
me and we've been together ever since.
We
now live together and have a 2-year old little boy who
will be page boy at our wedding in seven months time.
Our
relationship has been an obstacle race so far but with
patience, determination and most importantly love we
have been victorious and we believe that although we
have lots of things to be thankful for, the best is
yet to come!
