It all happened in December 2001. I received two messages on my mobile from two unknown numbers, one after the other. One message was cute and the other was rude. I responded instantly to the two messages. However, I continued to have more contact with the one who had sent me the rude message. This was Martin. He had gotten my mobile number from my cousin's mobile who works with him. He took his mobile as a joke, found his phone book, fancied my name and sent me a message.

However there was one problem. He lived in Malta while I lived in Gozo. Once, as I was going out of the Sixth Form in Gozo, my cousin took me to meet him.   I was surprised to see that he had come all the way from Malta to meet me. However, I had just come out of a one night stand with a guy, and was upset that I wasn't going to see him again. On our first date nothing happened between us.

The following weekend he came across to Gozo and I remember clearly that the weather was really bad. My cousin told me that if nothing happened that night he said that he wouldn't come over again. So we went for a drink together and as we were going out I decided to take the step and kiss him. Immediately as we kissed, it started raining and we stood there kissing in the rain. It was a very romantic scene which I will never forget.

From that day onwards, he has continued coming over to Gozo every weekend and hopefully we will settle in Gozo as we intend getting married after we both finish our studies in 3 years' time.
