Joanna
Sultana and Robert Borg
Wedding
Date: 18th June 2000
I
suppose you can say it was meant to be!
I
met Joanne when we where both at school in Sydney, Australia.
We were in year 1 together, at a local primary school
there, in 1985. She and her family left the following
year to come back to Malta.
I
visited Malta in 1998 and, just by pure coincidence,
we met up at the Mellieha Bay Hotel where she was working.
I was there because my sister was also working there.
I saw her and thought 'she's a pretty lady', but I didn't
recognise her. Anyway, after a while, on the way home,
I asked my sister what her name was and she said, 'Joanne
Sultana', but I still didn't make the link.
I
went back a day later and I didn't see her, but she
saw me and came up to me and said "Hello Robert".
I
said "How do you know my name" and she said
"I remember you from school, back in Australia."
I
said "Wow, but that was 13 years ago!"
We
then met up that night in Sliema and had a really nice
time reminiscing about Australia and seeing what we
had both been up to. I was supposed to be in Malta for
only 3 months, but I'm still here today and I'm a permanent
citizen now.
We
got engaged in 1999. I am a carpenter in Mosta
and she is still working at the Mellieha Bay Hotel,
living in Mellieha. We have two kids, Christopher,
who is three, and Francesca who is two.
I
suppose you could say our union was 13 years in the
making!
