In
October 2001 on the first day of College I walked in
the class room and could sense there was a student eying
me. "Get your act together; you can't afford to
flunk again, no girly business." I thought so I
sat down two seats behind her. Her hair...it just
caught my eye...yeah she may look fine from behind who
knows what lies in the front...it was an angel face!
Still
things developed very very slowly, being a very small
institute of 20 students we quickly formed two groups
as it happened, by the English speaking and Maltese
speaking. Marisa and I were in two different groups
and that’s how things stayed for
6
months.
However
love struck during a life-skills lecture. We were
obliged to give our opinion on society, relationships
and family life, I guess that’s were we both understood
that we were on the same wavelength....could it be?
She
looked so snobby...little did I know at that time that
she thought the same of me! We got talking. She
is actually OK, I thought. We continued talking...hey
she is actually funny and smart! We soon grew
close and all the other students noticed the change...and
they weren’t very happy.
Then
on June 3rd I received an e-mail, being just typical
of Marisa, she stated exactly how she felt about me,
what she wished to become of us and what my feedback
would be (always so formal). I replied that I
felt the same. And that was it!
The
very next day, on my birthday, we started our final
exams, I still remember looking up from my desk, whilst
trying to figure out the soils macro and micro nutrients
and saw Marisa who was sitting for the same exams in
a different classroom. I suppose she got up to
go to the loo. I saw her walking in the corridor.
"That’s
my girlfriend” I thought. We glanced at each other,
I smiled, and she put up one of those funny faces...yeah...she’s
the one!
We’ve
been through a lot together but hard times have only
brought us even closer. It’s strange but our differences
is what makes us grow up, our values are what keep us
inseparable, our characters simply compliment each other
and now I understand why they say "my other half".
She is my other half.
We
argue and laugh, tease and provoke, discuss and pray
together. I understand now how important it is to share
your life with someone, to be there when she needs you
and to know that she’s there when things get tough.
All
challenges can be taken together making it that little
bit easier, I look back and realise that since I met
Marisa I grew up, and look forward to planning my future
with her.
