Trip details:

Our honeymoon felt more like an expedition than a honeymoon! :) We knew Greece had alot to offer, so we purchased a guidebook and literally spent our time sightseeing to our hearts content.  Each island offers you something unique.

It truly was a fantastic experience.

"Just in case you were wondering, that is the actual mask of Agemmenon made of solid gold, taken at the National Archeology Museum in Athens.  If you watched the movie Troy and if I'm not mistaken, Agemmenon  was the brother of Menelaus, King of Sparta.  Menelaus was married to Helen of Troy.  In 1193 B.C., Prince Paris of Troy stole Helen away from her husband, setting the two nations at war with each other."

Reason for choosing this destination:

Susan - I always wanted to visit Greece since I was younger.  I grew up with many Greek friends, I was familiar with the food, traditions, people, and even the Greek Dancing, OPAH! James was also keen on visiting, so our decision was easy.

How was the weather?

When we arrived at our first destination, Athens, it was raining! But as soon as we arrived at the hotel it stopped. Thank goodness!  All the destinations were warm, average 28 degrees, always sunny with blue sky.  Mykonos was rather windy, a sweater to be worn at night.  On average, the weather was great.

Where have you stayed?

Athens - Art Hotel, 3* - Excellent

Mykonos - Cavo Tagoo, 4* - Excellent

Paros - Antirides Hotel, 4* - Excellent

Santorini - Pegasus Suites, 5*- Too many stairs!

What did you do?

James and I both love history and archeology, so purchasing the guidebook before leaving Malta was extremely helpful. We walked, we hiked, we ate, we toured caves...you name it, we saw it!

The best parts?

Athens - The Acropolis, The National Archeology Museum

Mykonos - Town of Mykonos - walk and allow yourself to get lost in the narrow, winding streets!

Paros - fishing village of Naoussa a must, Town of Parikia

Santorini - Akrotiri, Ancient Thira, Imerovigli, Fira, and Oia is a must!

The biggest regrets?

Not visiting any beaches, but we felt that Greece was too beautiful to pass up and had lots to offer, and besides, we have Malta for sun and sand!

Commonly used words you've learned?

Kalimera - good morning

Kalispera - good afternoon

Kalinihta - good night

Yassou - hello or goodbye

Yassas - hello or goodbye

Efharisto - thank you

Parakalo = you're welcome

Any suggestions you would like to pass on to other couples visiting the same destination?

Greece is a unique country well known for its history.  Do take the time to sightsee and visit sites and museums.  It truly is a fantastic experience. The people are friendly and helpful, there is so much to see and do, and you learn so much. Greece truly is a magical place.

What's the suggested budget for a similar trip?

Lm1,800 including hotels, flights, ferries, spending money

Any other comments?

We will definitely visit Mykonos again, and surely Crete and other Greek islands in the future.
